Taylor’s Sponsor of The Golden Vines Diversity Scholarships
Earlier this year, Taylor’s port announced in association with Liquid Icons and The Gerard Basset Wine Education Charitable Foundation their sponsorship of The Golden Vines Diversity Scholarships, now called The Taylor’s Port Golden Vines Diversity Scholarships. The Golden Vines Diversity Scholarship, Internship & Mentorship Program includes two scholarships for students from ethnic minorities wishing to undertake the Masters of Wine (MW) and Master Sommelier (MS), programs open to applicants from all over the world. These scholarships, up to a maximum of £ 55,000 for each student, cover the full cost of their courses and exams, as well as lost income during their internships.
The winners of The Taylor’s Port Golden Vines Diversity Scholarships were announced at the Golden Vines Awards Dinner, held at Annabel’s Private Club on October 7th. The 2021 Golden Vines® Diversity Scholarships were awarded to MW students Dr Erna Blancquaert and Angela Elizabeth Scott. The event also recognised the ‘star performers of the fine wine industry’, while raising funds for the late wine stalwart’s foundation through an auction of high-end wine experiences.
Adrian Bridge, CEO of Taylor’s Port, the sponsor of the scholarships, commented: “Taylor’s Port is delighted to be involved with this initiative to foster diversity in the wine industry. We are excited to see two very worthy winners have been chosen by the judges. As a company, we always worked closely with Gérard Basset and were involved in his first Hotel Du Vin in Winchester. Gérard was a great supporter of the wine industry and education, so it is an honour for us to be associated with his name and this very important award”.
