Turkey Flat Vineyard, Rosé 2010

It must be the Dolcetto in this otherwise predictable blend which brings the je ne said quoi to Turkey Flat Rosé. Never has this pervasive brewq had such style or drinkability because in 2010 TFR is beautifully balanced and less combative of late and this observation can also be leveled at the two 2009 Butcher’s Block wines, too, which if you haven’t seen them before are pinpoint accurate Southern Rhone remixes.

Valley is a big, muscular red with the spiciness that is the hallmark of its constituent grape varieties, all originating in Mediterranean France, with a smoothness enriched  by 18 months ageing in oak casks. But it is balanced and really quite. A hugely likeable wine for winter evenings.

Shiraz 2006

‘Pour a glass of old vine Turkey Flat Shiraz 2006 from the Barossa Valley Australia, and you can almost taste the bitter chocolate before your mouth hits the glass. Rich and plumy with a streak of spice and silky smooth, it’s an elegant red for a special occasion or for a sweet tooth watching their waistline.’

A Rhône-style blend of grenache, syrah and mourvèdre, this is packed with sweet, grapy fruit: very attractive.’

Rosé 2008

“Barossa is not exactly recognised as the seat of quality rosé production but it can clearly be done, as this very good example shows, with a restraint often lacking in new world examples. Balanced, cool, crisp and crunchy with cherry, redcurrant and raspberry cream notes, this is vibrant and stylish.”

Butcher's Block White 2008

“A blend of Marsanne, Viognier and Roussanne, this Australian white is fragrant and peachy with an aromatic edge. A decent drop to sip in springtime and a great match for a roast chicken with all the trimmings.”

Shiraz 2006

“This has some fruit in the blend from those old vines and has a complex nose with black fruits, spice, coffee and some savoury notes, but what marks this out is its fantastic balance and elegance.”
