TAPANAPPA
South Australia
Tapanappa, Foggy Hill Pinot Noir 2009
“The colour of morello cherries, it’s produced by one of the country’s most famous winemakers, Brian Croser. Polished and beautifully structured with ribbons of red and black fruit, subtle tannins and an elegant finish, save this beauty for lightly seasoned dishes, rather than hickory-flavoured platters.”

Tapanappa, Tiers Vineyard 2008
Grapefruit, nuts, cream and caramel on the nose. Lovely, light tropical freshness, fantastic balance with a long, lovely aftertaste. Full initial flavour then softens and excites.

Tapanappa Tiers Vineyard Chardonnay 2008
Work of art from Brian Croser, the Australian wine master. But still young, so pour into a jug for an hour to develop its flavours – stone, nuts, citrus and honey.

Tapanappa Tiers Vineyard
Chardonnay 2008
‘Brian Croser, never one to shy from a challenge, managed to create one of the greatest Tiers to date during the fierce heat of March 2008. The notes of lemon, grapefruit and citrus zest are subtle and refined, yet astonishingly intense. Now-2025.’

Tapanappa Foggy Hill
Pinot Noir 2008
To my surprise, Tapanappa, Foggy Hill Vineyard Pinot Noir 2008 Fleurieu Peninsula from a brand new southern extremity of South Australia proved a delicious punctuation to a fortnight of tasting burgundy and more than held its own. It had both fruit and freshness but is far from simple. In fact I compared it with a famous Kiwi Pinot from my cellar, Dry River Pinot Noir 2001 Martinborough, and found it very much more elegant, refreshing and nuanced.

Cabernet Shiraz 2006
“'Last year's Merlot 06 sold out in the blink of an eye and so this year I have given the nod to the imperial Whalebone Cab/Shiraz. Fiendishly difficult to pin down, the flavour and aroma of this wine shape shifts in the glass as you try and keep up with every intricate nuance. Lighter on its feet that one would imagine, this sensational red should last for 20 years in the bottle, but its balance is so finely tuned already that I would bet that its fans will not be able to keep their hands off it.”
