Fonseca, Unfiltered Late Bottled Vintage Port 2005

These complex, smooth red wines are gutsy and powerful, but also have a delicious floral character and delightful chocolate egg friendly-sweetness. Tasting cues of chocolate, blackberries or cherries make this a perfect wine either to match up with chocolate or cheese, or to sip after dinner on its own.

Fonseca Terra Prima

And when it comes to the cheeseboard say ‘yes’ to Fonseca Terra Prima with a slice of stilton. Rich, concentrated and very cherry-esque with a velvety smooth finish, it’s extremely moreish and a wine even non-port drinkers will enjoy.

Fonseca 1985

One of the best wines from a very patchy vintage, retaining good colour and boasting very ripe fruit – open, rich yet solid, with dark chocolate concentration (and I mean the 70% cocoa solids variety!) Long and voluptuous, it is ready now but will keep for a further 20 years.

Fonseca Terra Prima

“Jammed with dense, dark fruit and intense plummy flavours on the palate, it’s a classy serve with summer pudding or soft goat’s cheese.”

Fonseca Quinta do Panscal 1998

“Dark, savoury cherry fruits, a hint of spice, oak and varnish, lovely smoothness and persistence.  Fabulous aftertaste of dried fruits, chocolate and coffee.  Great stuff.” (17.5)

Fonseca Guimaraens 1996

“Thick and rich on the palate, like molasses and blackcurrant syrup.  Formidable but drinkable and with enough structure to age for many years.  Fresh and well put together.” (17)

Fonseca LBV 2003

“Late Bottled Vintage Port may be less grand than its full-blown Vintage equivalent but it is a lot cheaper and accessible far earlier. This fine LBV has beautiful depth; it’s not too sweet and its rich fruit is tempered with supple tannins.”
