Prunes, dried fruit and liquorice on the nose. Velvety on the palate, with ripe fruit, firm tannins, and really long ageing potential, as well as good minerality. A beautiful wine” Sara Bachiorri. “The tannins are like a drunk ballet dancer – rolling over, but still balanced,” Chee Hui

Bodegas Roda Reserva 2007
The 2007 Roda Reserva displays a similar aromatic and flavor profile to the 2006. It offers up an inviting perfume of spices, violets, a hint of leather, balsamic, and blackberry. In the glass it is smooth-textured, spicy, and succulent. It is likely to evolve for another 2-3 years but can be approached now. It should continue to drink well through 2019. Score: 90

Bodegas Roda Reserva 2005
The 2005 Reserva from an outstanding vintage displays a classy perfume of spice box, cedar, leather, violets, and assorted black fruits. Dense, layered, and plush on the palate, in the glass it is intense, impeccably balanced, and lengthy. Give it 3-4 years to fill out and drink it through 2020+. Score: 92

Bodegas Roda Reserva 2006
These styles strike me as halfway between the new and the old Spain. In the former camp, for purity of fruit without the gameyness, a wine like Roda’s 2006 Rioja Reserva, Sainsbury’s, displays its pristine cherry-fruit spiciness and concentration.

“The saturated purple 2005 emits complex aromas of spice box, incense, lavender, plum and black cherry. Sweet, layered, and opulent, this powerful effort has enough structure to evolve for 10-15 years. Dense and super-concentrated, it has impeccable balance which should lead to a long life for this impressive wine. It will offer prime drinking from 2020 to 2045."

Bodegas Roda, Cirsion 2001
“The opaque purple coloured 2001 Cirsion offers a super-expressive nose of pain grille, pencil lead, mineral, incense and black cherry along with the complexity of some bottle aging. On the palate it reveals the extra layers and intriguing, sexy flavours that only a superior vintage and old vines can deliver. Voluptuous, rich, bordering on exotic, it will continue to evolve for another 8-10 years and drink well through 2036."
