A visit to Bodegas Hidalgo in Sanlucar and Jerez

As a huge sherry enthusiast, I was very excited about my first trip to Sanlucar and Jerez to visit Bodegas Hidalgo. Still family owned and run, Hidalgo has recently been taken over by the 8th generation of the family and is run by four brothers – Luis, Antonio, Juan and Fermin. Being the 9th oldest company in Spain, and the 3rd oldest sherry bodega, Bodegas Hidalgo has fantastic heritage and is among the top 500 oldest companies in the world.

A visit to Anwilka in the Helderberg, Stellenbosch

Anwilka’s vineyards are just 7 km from the ocean in Stellenbosch’s prime Helderberg region. The cool south easterly wind means that the Helderberg area is 3-4°C cooler than the rest of Stellenbosch, producing longer hang times and more elegant wines.

Mentzendorff wins big at the Mamba Awards

Iain and I attended the Mamba Riedel Awards last night at the Harrow at Little Bedwyn, the 10th anniversary year for Roger and Sue’s fabulous event. This year the categories were Aussie Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. We entered two wines into the awards and received 3 awards!
